Featured Vendor: Esabel

Her attitude is humble, her images dreamy. She signs her art "Esabel."
"For as long as I can remember that is how I sign my artwork," declares this 34 year-old artist named Isabel. She was raised by Portuguese immigrant parents in a Californian small town, called Hilmar. "Just south of Turlock, we have a cheese factory, " she tells us, "I'm not surprised you've never heard of it." Isabel moved to the Sacramento area eight years ago, where she came looking for work.

"I've always been one of those people who, if I needed something I'm more likely to make it than to go out and find it.  I make scarves. I've been drawing since I was 5, and painting since 16.  Mostly for myself, friends and family."

Not one to waste hours, Isabel uses her free time to make things. When she was laid off and looking for work, she also started selling her artwork and scarves to friends. Recently, Isabel discovered the community of the Midtown Bazaar, and began selling her arts and crafts here. "It's been a great experience," says this busy as ever artist, "the other vendors are supportive and very kind with their advice and help."

Featured Vendor: One and Only Arts

Unique, one-of-a-kind pieces typify Darnell Lamar Horton's One and Only Arts

 "Art isn't just something that hangs on your wall."-Darnell Lamar Horton

Born in 1977 in King's County Hospital (New York), Darnell Lamar Horton is a lifetime artist. Raised between New York and Philadelphia he attended the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, graduating in 1995. In 1999, Darnell was transplanted to Northern California by way of the U.S. Air Force. After two tours of duty, and his subsequent honorable discharge, Darnell has devoted himself full-time to his art. 

Darnell started One & Only Arts in 2009.  One & Only Arts showcases Darnell's many talents. Running the gamut from painting, sculpture, design, bead work to wood carving, Darnell enjoys exploring his subjects through a variety of mediums. Recently, Darnell began showcasing his work at the Midtown Bazaar. While Darnell's paintings and sculptures may be considered his flagship work, he uses his T-shirts as his walking billboards. Says Darnell: "Each T-shirt is one of a kind, there are no two alike. I start with an idea, put it on paper, transfer it to a silk screen and hand-print it on cotton shirts. I also dye a lot of the shirts by hand. I want each shirt to be a piece of art. Art isn't just something that hangs on your wall." PotatoBug Clothing: one of a kind clothing for your one of a kind kid.

Say hello to featured vendor, PotatoBug Clothing, a kid-clothing company created by sisters Michelle Hewitt and Nicole Dickinson. Proud mothers, these sisters got the idea of when one of their children wanted a specific design, and they thought- who knows better what a kid wants than a kid? PotatoBug Clothing was then formed. 

They start by printing up some designs by cutting potato stamps and using non-toxic paint that is then pressed onto a 100% cotton onesie or T-shirt. What began as fun clothing made for family, friends and given as gifts is now a full-fledged business. They've since expanded into the diaper cake market.
